In this section 1stChoiceWebHost share answers the most common questions regarding email hosting.

· How do I set up my email program?
· How do I set up additional POP3 email accounts?
· What is a catch all email address and how do I set it up?

How do I set up my email program?
If you are using Outlook express then you can use the auto config setup from the Cpanel. Simply log into your Cpanel, select the email address you wish to set up and click on Auto Config.

Click ok to any boxes that come up and when given the option 'save as' or 'open'. Click on open. You have now set up Outlook Express.

Please note, however, this does not always work with Windows XP.

If you decide to set up your email client manually then you will require the following information

Incoming mail server (pop3)
Your mail server name is mail.yourdomain.com (replacing yourdomain.co.uk with your own domain name). This server name will be the same no matter how many POP3 accounts email accounts you choose.

Outgoing mail server (smptp)
The outgoing email server can either be that belonging to your ISP for example smtp.freeserve.net or you can use your mail server name in exactly the same way as above ie: mail.yourdomain.com (replacing yourdomain.co.uk with your own domain name). Please note that if you abuse our mail servers by sending spam etc then 1st Choice Web Host will terminate your account. This is the reason why most web hosting companies will not allow you to use their servers for outgoing email. Please see our Terms of Use.

User name and password
The user name for your email address will be the email address itself. For example we normally set up a default account called 'Admin'. therefore the user name would be admin@yourdomainname.com.

The password for this default account will be included in your welcome email.

How do I set up additional email accounts?
If you have several different people or departments that you wish to receive email via their own email address then this is possible. Depending on the type of web hosting plan you have will depend on if you can have 3 email accounts or unlimited email accounts.

This allows you to store email addresses to different users in separate email boxes which can be downloaded independently and have their own password.

Please remember, however, that if a specific email box does not exist then the email will be sent to the default email box which is usually the admin one.

If you wish to create additional emails on your web hosting account then simply log into your Cpanel, choose the email tab and then scroll down until you see 'add pop e-mail account'.

Now all you need to do is type in the new email address for example 'info' and the new password and then if you wish set the mailbox capacity. This is a good idea if you are using our email only hosting plan as you do not want one email account to use up all 20megs.

Now any email that is sent to info@yourdomainname.com would be stored in the mailbox with the user name info@yourdomainname.com

To delete an email account simply click on the red x beside the account in your cpanel.

What is a Catch All email address and how do I set one up?
When the server receives an email addresses to anything@yourdomainname.com and cannot find a specific email address, forwarder or autoresponder for 'anything' in other words an 'unmatched' email address the server will automatically send the email to the default email address.

As a rule the default email address will be admin@yourdomain.com the details of which you will find in your welcome email.

This can easily be modified if you wish via your cpanel under the email menu and even set up to forward to an external email address such as that provided by your ISP.
