At 1stChoiceWebHost we understand how frustrating and annoying spam can be to your email accounts. Our hosting plans come with full email spam protection along with anti virus protection. We therefore aim to protect your computer against malicious viruses, worms and trojans with our advanced email protection service

NB: We do NOT accept any responsibility for any viruses that get through our filters and still highly recommend you use an anti virus program on your computer such as NOD32

However, our emails are scanned against a comprehensive database of known viruses which is updated regularly and if the email contains a virus it is deleted.

Just some of the features of the security we have installed on our servers to prevent email spam are as follows

• MailScanner / SpamAssassin / ClamAV / DCC / Vipuls Razor - mail scanning tools for anti-spam and anti-virus service installed to help cut down spam
  
  
• Anti Virus updates are run hourly to ensure the latest detection technology is used
  
  
• Email scanned for dangerous file attachments with removal and quarantine of the files
  
  
• Email scanned by anti-spam RealTime BlackHole Lists (RBL) to identify known/likely spammers
  
  
• Email scanned by anti-spam software that performs:
  • Email Header Analysis: spammers use a number of tricks to mask their identities, fool you into thinking they've sent a valid mail, or fool you into thinking you must have subscribed at some stage
  • Email Text Analysis: again, spam mails often have a characteristic style (to put it politely), and some characteristic disclaimers text
  • Razor: Vipul's Razor is a collaborative spam-tracking database, which works by taking a signature of spam messages. Since spam typically operates by sending an identical message to hundreds of people, Razor short-circuits this by allowing the first person to receive a spam to add it to the database -- at which point everyone else will automatically block it
    
    
• Exclusive! MailScanner front-end which you can access via cPanel this replaces SpamAssassin front-end and and becomes part of the cPanel theme. This enables clients to maintain their own settings, via a script, that modifies a text file stored in their account. This allows clients to configure:

  • Per domain actions for virus scanning
  • Per account whitelists and blacklists
  • Per account low and high score settings

• Our servers have Dictionary attack protection - this enables us to drop spammers who repeatedly send email to non-existent email addresses and can greatly reduce our server load. This is one reason why we recommend that the default address be set to :fail
